As a consequence of being consistent with veganism, we refuse to consume anything that comes from animal exploitation. This includes meat, dairy, eggs, honey, etc..
It is not a personal choice, the same way that refusing to use racist slurs is not a personal choice.
Refusing to participate in any oppression is the bare minimum. And for most people, being a bystander isn’t considered enough.
We’re not imposing our “lifestyle” onto you, the same way that you are not imposing your “lifestyle” when you confront someone for his sexist comments.
It’s good to acknowledge that we all have some prejudice. No one is safe from participating in toxic behaviour, and the more privileged you are, the easier it is for injustice to go unnoticed.
If you’re a decent person, you’ll change when you realise your actions are disrespectful.
When it comes to animals, we’re talking about the entire lives of sentient beings. If every single person turned vegan today, injustice would be far from gone.
We don’t demand for you to be perfect, we demand that you be, at the very least, decent.
Veganism is far from perfect, the same way abolishing slavery is far from being enough to stop racism.
